Cooperation between Brazil and Norway in Education and Research

A new strategy – reaching out to Latin America

In 2008 Norway launched a new strategy to enhance the academic cooperation with three countries in Latin America: Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

The strategy is aiming to:

• Strenghten cooperation in higher education (mainly master/Ph.D.)

• Strenghten research cooperation

• Increase the knowledge about Latin America in Norway

• Increase the knowledge about Norway in Latin America
Subject areas:

• Aquaculture, agriculture, medicine, energy, climate, environment, offshore supply services, Arctic/Antarctic research

Measures to enhance the academic cooperation with Latin America

Cooperation Agreements (MOUs)

The Norwegian Minister of Higher Education and Research Tora Aasland has signed agreements on research and higher education collaboration with her colleagues in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. The agreements lay the basis for closer collaboration in areas such as climate and polar research. Exchange of researchers and students will also play a central role.

Research Programme
The Research Council of Norway established a new programme in 2008 with the goal to enhance knowledge about Latin America in Norway by supporting high-quality research. Its thematic focus includes social sciences, development research, research on environment and climate, on culture and society, on energy and on natural resources.Learn more

Research network
The Norwegian Latin America Research Network (NorLARNet) was established in 2008 with the support of the Research Council of Norway. It forms a part of a strategy initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Research and Education to establish a permanent environment for the strengthening of knowledge about Latin America in Norway.
