Study at the University of Stavanger
Our vision is “to challenge established facts, explore the unknown, gain insight and find wisdom, to benefit society at large and our students and staff.”

In order to realise this vision, we need staff, students and people around us who are curious and hungry for knowledge. We are convinced that a collective commitment to this ambitious vision will help us produce wiser individuals who will be better equipped to meet the future and everyday challenges.

UiS, like all Norwegian higher education institutions, has implemented measures dictated by the Quality Reform. The two main reasons for the reform are achieving improved quality in higher education and research and following up the Bologna's process and Norway's obligations in that regard.

The MSc programme in Petroleum Geosciences Engineering is uniquely focused on the specific needs of exploration and production of the petroleum industry.

Learning outcomes of the program:
A successful learner from this programme will be able to solve geosciences problems by integrating different types of surface and subsurface data used by the oil industry and to integrate such information with Petroleum engineers. In addition, individuals will be able to formulate strategies and have the key fundamental knowledge to develop, manage and implement technology within the oil industry.

Specific outcomes include:
• To evaluate and solve technical problems related to the exploration and production of hydrocarbon reservoirs, from regional to reservoir scale, by interpreting and integrating different types of geological, geophysical and engineering data.
• To implement the use of leading edge technology used in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons that will produce the best results.
• To manage, develop and implement strategies for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons.

This programme qualifies for:
The program, which has been develop in close collaboration with the oil industry and the petroleum engineering programme, qualifies for a broad range of positions within the oil industry, both operators and service companies. The programme also qualifies for other industry or institutes where geosciences are applied such as construction, geo-environmental, mining, underground water and governmental companies.
A complete master degree in Petroleum Geosciences Engineering may qualify for admission to the PhD programme in Petroleum technology and geosciences at the University of Stavanger.
Application deadline The Electronic Application Form opens every year on the 1st September. There are 2 deadlines: 30th November for applicants from non-EU/EEA countries and 1st March for EU/EEA citizens.
