Student welfare organisations
Most universities and university colleges in Norway are connected to a student welfare organisation, providing services like housing, childcare, health and on-campus food services for students
There are 14 student welfare organisations (Samskipnad in Norwegian). They cover most of the large student cities.
The Samskipnad's are created by the Ministry of Education and Research, and receive some funds from them, but are not a formal part of the State Administration. Their role is to help the institutions in providing welfare for their students.
All students must pay a semester fee to the Samskipnad to be allowed to study and take exams at the instiution.
