Bachelor in animation and digital art

This education is suitable for those who want to bring their ideas to life by creating movement and special effects in animated stories, films, video games, and advertising. The study provides a comprehensive introduction to the mechanics and applications of modeling, animation, and digital art.

The first year of study focuses on developing broad knowledge. You will have the opportunity to develop artistic visions with basic courses in design, drawing, animation, and production. During the second semester, you choose between two specializations:

  1. 3D Art & Generalization
  2. 3D Animation
  3. Digital Art & Motion Design

This is a future-oriented program where you, as a student, will have your creativity challenged at the intersection of art and technology. 3D visualization, animation, and digital art play an increasingly important role in our contemporary world and are becoming more essential in education, entertainment, art, industry, and research. Animation and digital art are crucial elements in everything from game development, animated films, user interface design, special effects in films and games, digital installations, internet applications, art, architectural and interactive simulations, 3D visualization, TV commercials, and online advertising.

Entry requirements

The admission requirements for the Bachelor's program in Animation and Digital Art consist of three parts, all of which must be successfully completed:

  1. Applicants must meet the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification, including the English language proficiency requirement. Applicants are exempted from the Norwegian language proficiency requirement.
  2. Passed Entrance Exam. Information about the entrance exam can be found here
  3. Interview (in cases where the committee requires additional information to assess the admission test, applicants may be called in for an interview)

Campus

Hamar is considered the game capital of Norway, hosting many companies specializing in game development. The Game School brings together a large interdisciplinary academic community within the fields of game technology, simulation, virtual reality, augmented reality, animation and digital art, and is part of the Faculty of Audiovisual Media and Creative Technologies.

The Game School is situated at Campus Hamar. Hamar is the largest city in Innlandet county and has a central and idyllic location along the banks of Norway's largest lake, Mjøsa, close to the capital city and Oslo airport. The campus is conveniently located in the city centre. The local region has several historical sites and offers a large variety of cultural events and outdoor activities. Hamar is the proud host for the yearly VR/AR/XR conference, the Nordic VR Forum, and the largest annual computer gathering in Norway, the Gathering (external links).

Entry requirements

A relevant undergraduate Bachelor Engineering programme with minimum 25 credits mathematics, 5 credits statistics and 7,5 credits hysics topics. Basic knowledge in power electronics and electrical machines i required.
