European Chamber Music Master ECMAster
This programme provides a unique opportunity for you if you want a professional foundation as a chamber musician. What is special about this programme is that you will study at three different institutions in three European countries in the course of two years.
If you are eager to develop your chamber music abilities further and are part of a well-functioning chamber music ensemble, you should apply for this programme. You will be in close contact with your fellow players during your course of study and will experience musical development through your encounters with different specialist environments.
ECMAster is a master degree which is given in collaboration between leading music education institutions in Europe, and European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA). During the two-year degree studies, you will study at three educational institutions. The diferent study environments will complement each other, and the experience you gain will help to strengthen your identity as a chamber musician and will give your ensemble a broad platform for further development.
Entry requirements
Bachelor's degree in Music or equivalent qualification (as recognized by the Norwegian Academy of Music) with a minimum of 80 ECTS credits in Music Performance subjects. Applicants must be members of an established ensemble, and all ensemble members must apply at the same time and to the same institution. All applicants must meet the formal admission requirements. Entrance examinations will be held for eligible applicants. The qualifying level of performance demonstrated at the audition must at minimum be equivalent to the graduation requirements of the four-year Bachelor of Music Performance degree at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
The programme is open to established ensembles with a standard instrument combination:
- String trios and string quartets
- Piano trios and piano quartets
- Wind quintets
- Brass quintets
- Saxophone quartets
- Other ensembles with an established original repertoire of sufficient scope
Ensembles in the last category will need specific approval by the home institution and the host institutions. These ensembles must have a minimum of three and a maximum of five musicians. Larger ensembles may be accepted by agreement of the home institution and both host institutions, and with approval from the Programme Board.
