Why Master in Ecology and Environmental Management?
This programme is a multidisciplinary study that gives you a unique combination of professional and management skills. The study includes a broad scope of relevant research questions and challenges within the fields of ecology and environmental management.
Many of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals are central to the study. You will gain a good understanding of different ecosystems (terrestrial and aquatic), key components and processes. You will also learn about the interactions between humans and the environment.
The programme includes relevant method courses, such as statistics, sensorics, molecular methods and genetics.
The master's programme is specifically aimed at applicants with a background in natural sciences.
What kind of job do you qualify for?
Master of Science in Ecology and Environmental Management qualifies for a range of jobs in administration and research, depending on the subject areas you specialize in. As examples you can for work with management of game/wildlife and fish populations, conservation of the biodiversity, nature mapping, environmental impact assessment or work related to water resource management and pollution control. Graduates are attractive for both private and public sector.

Through a well-developed network with regional and national companies in the private and public sector we ensure relevant and updated education. We offer guest lectures and/or visits to relevant companies og organizations in most of the courses. We also offer master theses in collaboration with external partners.
What you will learn
Graduates of the programme possess advanced knowledge within Climate Change and Study Design and Statistics (mandatory courses) in addition to advanced knowledge within several elective courses (i.e. Ecotoxicology, Landscape ecology and remote sensing, Habitat Ecology, Applied Molecular Genetics, Applied Conservation Biology, Individual Project).
During the Master Thesis course, in the 3rd and 4th semesters, students will work independently, under supervision, on a chosen project related to terrestrial and aquatic ecology or environmental management.
The study is research and management oriented and provides thorough experience of laboratory and/or fieldwork. Students enrolled in the programme will work both individually and in groups. Theoretical knowledge, practical competence and generic skills are emphasized throughout the study to increase employability.
Get international experience
You can take parts of Ecology and Environmental Management abroad. Studying or taking an internship abroad can give you the opportunity to expand your international competence, language skills, personal qualities and adaptability. It can also make you more attractive in the job market. We have agreements with foreign universities, colleges and internships adapted to your studies. As an alternative to exchanges abroad, we offer the opportunity to take a semester at UNIS in Svalbard.
