You're assigned a main tutor and a tutor group from day one, giving you consistent, in-depth critical feedback throughout the two years. You'll work alongside a small, tightly-knit international cohort in a purpose-built facility at Møllendal, close to Bergen city centre, with workshops and production spaces designed for studio work.
What will you learn?
The programme is structured around your own artistic practice: through research, experimentation, and ongoing dialogue with your tutor and peers, you develop the conceptual depth, methodological grounding, and technical range needed to operate professionally in the contemporary art field. Alongside your studio work, you strengthen your critical and analytical thinking, building the tools to articulate and contextualise your own practice within a broader art discourse. The programme culminates in a graduation project, developed and presented publicly as the outcome of your two years of research and production.
Student life
Day to day, you're working within a close academic community with direct, regular access to teaching staff. Your studies are built around tutoring and your own artistic practice, which grows in scope and complexity over four mandatory modules as you build toward your graduation project. Alongside your studio work, you take part in seminars and group critiques that develop your conceptual and analytical understanding of art, as well as courses that strengthen your writing, critical thinking, and ability to articulate your own work. You can also choose from a range of elective, project-based courses connected to ongoing artistic research at the Academy.
Career paths
A Master's in Fine Art qualifies you to work as a professional, practicing artist. Beyond studio practice, graduates go on to work as curators, critics, producers, or technicians within the art field.
